Hi guys .... please on the 08' and 09' 550i E60s, is there a noticeable difference between the Sport Automatic transmission and regular steptronic auto transmission? which of them give a better "Ultimate Driving Experience" ? can you just tap the steptronic into sports mode to act the same way? ... was trying to do a search but this "so called 4G" is the slowest thing ever. Thanks

The SAT is a a steptronic tranny that has the paddle shifters and the SPORT button, which when engaged will give you much more aggressive auto gear shifts.

By all means DO get a car with this option.

On the 08 models it was a separate option. Can't say about the 09 models.

I have SAT (Sports Automatic Transmission) with flappy paddles on the steering wheel on my Nov 2007 car. In the UK it was a $3000 option but money well spent.

When you hit the 'Sport' button at the base of the shifter, boy does it transform the car !! The sterring becomes much harder and more responsive and the main benefit is that changing gears happens very very quickly compared to normal. The RPM mapping is also very different to give a much sportier experience.

It much more fun to drive :-)

If you have a choice, it is a definate must have on the wish list !!

Is that true about the steering on US models? I'm taking delivery on a SAT equipped 550 in two days. The BMW sales people all said that it quickened the gear changes and added the steering paddles.
