On my way to LA Friday night, I took the toll road Rt 73. Rt 73 consists of a lot of hills. It can be a very fun drive. It was sometime around 8:45pm and traffic was sparse. Was on phone with g/f in middle lane cruising at about 80mph. Suddenly, a Nissan Altima blows by me to my left. I thought "Hmmm... Maybe SE-R?" Didn't feel like playing catch up at that point to find out. A few miles on down the itch began. I have not opened up the car for a few weeks. This was a perfect time. Right conditions and did I mention barely any traffic?
So, I waited right before the toll plaza. The toll plaza is on top of the hill. As I began my ascent, I downshifted from 6 to 3 and stomped on the throttle. I blew by the Altima without much effort and as I reached the midpoint of the hill I was already at 120. I noticed that I passed a 2005/06 Lexus GS 300/430 (not sure). Looking back in the rearview mirror a few seconds later, the GS began chasing me. The gap never closed until when I reached the apex of the hill did I let up.
Spirited driving downhill is not very wise... Too many variables, the biggest being police. From experience
, I know that cops like to nab people as they begin their descent. People tend to go faster as they travel downhill. So, I slowed to about crusing speed at 75/80 and so did the GS. I did the proper thing and had already move into the middle lane as to keep the left lane for passing.
As we approach the bottom of the hill, the GS is pacing me right behind my quarter panel in the left lane.
I'm coming up real quick to a car in my lane, so I downshift once again from 6 to 3 and enter the left lane. GS tries to keep up but I'm putting car lengths on him. Decide to finally shut down, move over to middle land and GS catches up. I resume cruising speed. GS figures out that play time is over and passes me and darts in and out between cars ahead. All the while this is happening I'm still on the phone talking to my g/f who is oblivious to what had just happened.
Please, I do not need to be lectured about the dangers, illegality and recklessness of speeding. Thanks for reading.

Nice fun. GS is no match. the 5 is truely the best car out there, I love Dynamic Drive, keeps the car sooo flat. The power, the handling, the driving feel.

Love the LA/OC freeways on the weekends, everyone going fast, down right made for the 550. Love jiio's story too. Today I went from the 261 to Irvine blvd to Jeffrey to the 5 south (where a couple of vehicles and I traded turns being rabbit). All the way down to Ortega Hwy. Lots of high speed curves in South OC. Got back on the five, because the other side looked just as fun. Then I decided that the 73 would be fun and with less than a quarter mile to my exit I was easily able to accelerate and brake through the five lanes (which was fun!) The 73 is just a great ride. I bumped into several GS (they give up fast) and a couple of AMG 55s, among the lessers, which give up real fast!
Goodness I don't like how the car behaves under 20mph, but over that I am in love!!!!!
I especially love how the front end jumps, almost thoroughbred like, when requested. And I have not even gone over 4500rpm. What a great vehicle!
