Does anyone know how difficult it is and how to remove the plastic "glass" that covers the speedo/tach/stupid gas mileage gauge etc to remove a small dead bug that has made my car his final resting place?

First time I've head that lol...if your lucky it's held in by screws...if not it's seal by some kind of bond like the headlight lens. Hopefully someone else can give you some better info.

Check the DIY section for a thread where someone changed the instrument lights to look like a M5

It's most likely held in place by screws - but you are probably going to have to remove the lower and/or upper dash panels to reach them. Good luck!
