I picked up a red-light jump the other morning
You should have said it was green when when you put your foot down on the accelerator but due to the turbo lag the car only started moving when the light went back to red!

Well its finally happened. And in style too.

Im 21....driving a 2.5litre 0-60 in 7.9 seconds road eating machine.. Its easier to do 120 in it than it is to do 30.

On my way to wales earlier this week i came round the corner of a dual carriageway just as the speed limit had changed from 70mph to 50mph and a cop van was sitting there camera poised. I was braking so im not 100% certain it caught me. Id say its a 50/50 chance on this one.

However tonight i made a rather dumber mistake. As i pulled onto a dual carriageway i passed a Blue Vauxhall Vectra. It had very nice xenon headlights as i looked back in my mirror. Approximately 2 miles up the road those xenons were off but even brighter blue ones were flashing wildly.

Had the cops had a camera that took an instant speed reading i do believe i may well face court but they had an average speed job. I got clocked at 86.4mph.

When i got out he asked me 'how fast do you think you were going' and knowing i was touching 100 in parts i said 'erm around 85??' so i should really have high fived him for being so close.

However 3 points and ?60 fine.....possibly doubled up if the van one comes through...
Not a good week for motoring...
Tough on the second one but the first they can't do anything if its within either2 or 300 yds of the speed limit starting.
I think is is called best practice it allows you to slow down if you are not warned of the new limit, so check where the actual infringment took place if you do get a FP, I'm ex police so I do know a wee bit (oh I wasn't Traffic branch)

This cop was on a mission! I got the full lecture and questions like "What does the amber light mean?" (Strangely enough I didn't answer, "If the light goes amber then you hit the accelerator!") He'd made his mind up - and apparently I was lucky to get a fixed penalty, he sends most people straight to court! Yeah right, I'm so lucky...

Totally borderline (I'm still seething a bit) but I didn't fancy arguing it in court...

Bad luck - they're just jealous of the car. All they can aspire to is a White Volvo

Hmmm... and here I thought I would be safer getting the 530 over the 550 for fear of speeding.

Sorry to hear about the ticket. Good luck.
True : 530 is more license friendly than a 550,
but all still very relative, since the smallest car can do >200km/h these days

Perhaps BMW could consider developing a new feature and by putting a few buttons on the dash
for exampled labeled as "30" - "50" - "70"
and when you push the button, the speed is limited to this level.
Only when you press the button again to switch it off or do a kickdown you could overwrite the limit

Only for those who have lack of self-control and/or too many points collected

Bad news!

Speed camera vans are seriously sneaky - and IMO unfair. Hopefully if you were braking you may have been below 60mph and could well get away with it.

They are absolutely mental about speeding in Wales - so if you are anyway near the place - you just have to rein it in - I was done recently doing 86mph on the a449 near the M4.

As it says in the thread they have 14days to get a NIP (notice of intended prosection) to the registered keeper - if that's you then great - but if it's leased it may go to them and not reach you for several more weeks.

As for the unmarked car - bad luck - in my experience they pretty much leave you alone below 90mph (except in Wales). I suspect that he latched onto you cause he saw you were approaching 100mph.

There are more unmarked cars around than you think and they are not always easy to spot (I saw an unmarked mondeo st220 in Brum recently). I got 6 points pretty quickly when I was younger and responded by slowing down a bit. In my experience - most of the time you'll be alright below 90mph on the motorway and going over a 100mph anywhere is a REAL risk.

Good luck - hopefully you'll get away with three points.
