For the Professional and High Discs (idrive CCC and MK4)
Things changed with the 2011 disc.
In the 2010 disc BMW moved from single layer discs to dual layer discs and squeezed Eastern Europe on to the European discs. But that caused all sort of problems with drives not reading the discs etc.
So BMW moved to 3 discs for Europe. Each disc is single layer.
Each disc is detailed for one particular area but still has all the main roads of entire Europe on it. So if you are using this to actually navigate in detail you will have to change discs.
For the Premium (idrive CIC).
It has always been 3 discs but you load the 3 discs up into the idrive's memory. So once loaded you never actually need the discs again.
So satnavi hasn't squeezed Europe on to a single disc, they have sold you the German disc. Disc 2.
Adding speed cameras to discs is nothing new and it was something I came up with first, many years ago. Using that same technique, I was the guy who put the 7 char UK postcode search on to the UK disc for personal use. Today that technique is used to make discs and is being sold by every corner shop on the net.

This would save me a whole lot of problems for coming trips around Europe.

sorry my expertise cannot achieve this. The problem is that what your asking for is to create new map data, that isn't easily doable by anyone except the map data owner.

Try "contact us" on satnavi.com, they might be able to accommodate you. Although I don't know why their standard multi-layer disc (which is I assume what I received) wouldn't be fine.

Now I've read Bruce's post fully, it sounds like I got the German disc from satnavi.com. I'm going to contact them to find out. It's fine if I did, I've still got my 2006 disc for when I drive in the UK. I'll report back.

I haven't, but it sounds good. The problem I have with using phone apps is that I don't want to be plugging it in and fixing it to the window each time I go anywhere, and then the phone becomes unusable for anything other than running that app (especially as I don't have bluetooth integration). I've tried loads of great apps though on my android - daily roads voyager, head up display apps etc.

I've been reading up on the navi DVDs. Yes, as Bruce says, since 2011 it's been three discs. Each of the three discs contains the main roads for all of Europe. So you can travel across numerous countries on any of the discs. It's only when you want to "get local" that you need to be using the disc of your choice, as long as you set your destination to be a large city near where you want to go (rather than expecting to find a tiny village or a street in a different country).
I'm busy downloading discs 1 and 3 right now, as I discovered I've got disc 2 which doesn't include the UK.
I hope to make a custom single disc once I've got all three ISOs, being a merge of all three but only having the maps of the countries I'm interested in. I'm pretty sure I wouldn't exceed the size of one disc with the countries I need.

I found 2011 Europe Nav for my pre LCI 2006 E60 online. Not so sure if its 2011 or 2009 but still pretty goood. You can't beat it, it was free. It works perfect, im in UK havent had a problem yet. No Cameras or anything like that though

What you will find is that on each disc the entire map data is one massive file, its not broken up in individual countries or anything else.
