As I didn't have Navigation installed on my car. :'(
I'm planning to get a Pocket PC and also a Navigation kit to go with it (best of both worlds). The kit I'm looking at is the Tom Tom Navigator 3 which uses a bluetooth receiver. As the actual GPS reciever uses a magnet to attach to the dashboard, the best place would be the mesh bit on the centre of the dash right next to the Solar Sensor. Is this actually a speaker? If so would having a magnet on the mesh grille bit cause any problems with the speaker or anything else in the dash such as the I-Drive screen? Any suggestions would be great.
I haven't bought the Pocket PC or Navigation kit yet as I wanted to check with you experienced guys first.

Thanks

It is a speaker.

I would have thought the magnet in the GPS would be way too small to affect the cone of the speaker. Quick call to a car audio fitter would confirm though.

It might be the other way around... The magnet in the speaker is affecting the GPS...
Hinestly... I don't think it's a problem at all. But to be on the safe side, call a car audio dealer, like mentioned above.

Unless a speaker is shielded for operation next to a computer, the magnet will affect its operation and may erase data depending on the strength of the magnet.

You'll at least get interference with the screen, data processing problems and more.

Best bet is to use velcro at some other location.

Sorry, but a magnet is not going to affect a TFT screen, and the car's computer is located way below where the tiny little magnet in a GPS receiver is going to sit.

I have a small antenna for XM radio that has a magnet on the bottom velcro'd to the front of the dash next to the windshield. It's not very far from the speaker (a few inches) and have had no noticeable interference in audio quality.

Thanks,
Dave

He's referring to the magnet of the BMW center speaker, I believe.
I would keep any unsheilded speaker away from a computer or screen.

Sorry Jimbo, I re-read and saw you were referring to Iceman's post.
