Hello everybody,

New Boy here!

I've just bought a '04 530d touring and would like to lose the runflats and therefore fit a spare wheel.

Now, in ripoff UK BMW would like to charge me ?182 ( $318 ) for the retrofit kit ( compared to ?75 when

specified as a new option ..... ! ) so I thought I might investigate alternative ways of doing this!

Could anyone please tell me the size of wheel ( diameter / width / offset ) and possibly part no.

together with the size of tyre fitted?

Also, could anyone tell me the price of the kit in the USA ( if available ) as I visit often and could easily

bring one home.

Many thanks in anticipation,

Already enjoying a thoroughly informative and entertaining Forum!

Cheers,

Mike.

Welcome. Do you mean the mobility kit? I think it was about $150 less discount, say, 10%. Here is what I did about no spare: Trunk Funk.

Znod,

Thanks for the ( very! ) rapid reply!

The Mobility Kit looks a possibility - does it do the job ok?

I'd still appreciate the answer to the original question re spare wheel and tyre size, if anyone has it.

Cheers,

Mike.

I'll check mine in the morning if no one has provided the info by then. I have two cars with nothing but kits--and no RFT's. I have had many "nails" in them and other cars' tires, and I have never had a case where I did not have time to get to a tire repair shop. At the worst, I have simply added air with no gunk also added. However, I would be uncomfortable going on a road trip without a spare or at least RFT's. I have never used the mobility kits on either of the cars without spares.

Where I live they charge 300 euros for the 17" donut+jack, proper rip-off! If you are lucky you can get a donut on ebay for about 20-30$

I went for the kit on my own 530d Touring. Clearly BMW are having inflation as it was ?160 a year a go.
As well as the spare wheel, you need the tools - jack and wheel brace - unless you already have them. The kit comes with these in a moulded foam tray that fits inside the wheel, plus a bolt to hold it all down. Also has space for BMW removable towbar, which I find useful.
Whether you get the wheel or the kit, you need to remove the existing trim which covers this space, otherwise the wheel doesn't fit. May seem obvious but it nearly fits, but not quite. Just lifts out (and I kept in case refit RFT's and other wheels before selling.

Good luck and good decision

Retrofit emergency wheel is 36110308889 (About ?160-180) US price is listed at $289 - still around ?160!

Emergency rim only is 36116758778, 17" ET18. (Should be no more than ?40)

Tyre is 135/80R17 (Continental on mine, CST 17 I think).

You'll also need a jack/brace (part of the retrofit kit)...

Try and find a sympathetic dealer and do a 'deal' - including tyres etc...
