Well today was not my lucky day. I went to a place to tint my windows and clearly told the guy that I want 20% windows tint and without the metal particle in the tint. He recommends 3M CS 20% tint. Well after he finished the job I start driving and I get the SOS Malfunctions message and my FM, AM & CD dont play anything at all.
I talked to the guy and he said that maybe the tint is still humid and it's doing interference with the antenna and that I should give it time before it's completely dry.
Do you guys think that he installed the wrong kind of tint in my car and that's the reason why the car is not able to play any sound because the reception is getting blocked by the tint?
Thanks in Advance
Aaron

I have metallic tint on mine, and it doesnt affect any kind of reception in my 545i. Sometimes what happens is that they use a soap water mix to apply the film on the rear window, and then they squeegee out the excess. That liquid flows down the side panels of the car, and the TCU sits in the left rear trunk area right under the rear window where the runoff from the squeegeeing may have dripped onto. I hope that didn't affect the TCU or wiring harness there but its always a possibility. Let it dry out in a warm area and see what happens. Also, if that doesnt solve it, unplug the negative pole from the battery, wait a while and reconnect it.
Best of luck

I have 20% metallic film all around, and have no problems.
Something else is the issue.

I'm going to the dealer but the next available spot is a week from now! For the record I'm still very happy with the car and the engine drives very smooth but I need music and sound !

UPDATE #1 for the SOS malfunction message and radio not working
The service advisor called me and said they are replacing the radio. So far the TCU it's not the problem. He said they are getting the radio shipped to them for next day delivery.
Now the question is if they install a new radio, will that new radio be able to play MP3 CD ?

UPDATE #2 for the SOS malfunction message and radio not working
The problem wasn't the radio. After they installed the radio the problem continue so the radio is fine. They are going to replace the TCU unit and upload the new sotware 20.xx.
The question again. If they install a new TCU and newer software can they anable MP3 player? remeber I don't have NAV but I got Logic 7 in my car with build date of 12/2003

3M film tint here and no probs..... well since you mention your CD does not play that kind of answers your question that it has nothing to do with the perception or the antenna..... so it is either that the water got in to some of the car's electronics.... or they simply messed up the car while in the shop...... you know those mechanics..... they drive old ford escort so when they see a new E60 they got to play with the I-drive........
