A Sorry Tale

Jon,
That is a lovely car, congratulations. I'm sure you got it at a very good price. Don't go spoiling it with any ACS stuff now especially the wheels
Having had a 645Ci on an extended test drive before going down the 997 route I can say that they are very different animals indeed. The 645 is a real GT with a fairly smooth ride, spacious cabin and relaxed nature. The engine sound is fabulous and it has a fair turn of speed when you flex the toes on your right foot. The 997 is a more raw driving experience and is a true sports car. There is nothing quite like the sound of the flat six powering up behind you as you increase the revs.

997 is still the route for me to go but I'm in the midst of changing job and moving house so I had to reign in on my normal excesses!
I hope that you are enjoying the 997 - whatever next 997 tt???

The 997 is fantastic Jon. It's the best handling car I've ever driven. I gave it some stick late at night around your neck of the woods around 4 weeks ago to demonstrate its handling abilities to a friend. The speed at which you can take some of the dozens of roundabouts over there when the roads are virtually empty is astonishing. The front end justs digs in and feels like it is biting the corner into submission.
I don't know what to replace it with to be honest. A 997TT sounds appealing but I think the waiting list will be a killer. I had thought about a used Gallardo but I've heard horror stories about reliability on some of the early cars which has put me off a bit. To be honest my Carrera is hard to top because it is discreet enough not to attract unwanted attention. It is also fairly compact making it easy to park and I'm less inclined to worry about it being damaged/stolen whilst I'm away from it. If I had a Lambo I wouldn't want to leave it anywhere so that would be very restricting. I've read a few tests of the Carrera vs the CarreraS now and many of them opt for the base car in terms of ride comfort and negligble performance defecit. I'd have to agree as I test drove the S quite a few time before taking delivery of my car. The smaller 18" alloys and slightly more compliant suspension make it more tolerable on our poorly surfaced roads.
If you want a real driving thrill get one
