I am thinking BST cable replacement, but I thought if it was bad the car would not start? No accidents or reason to think it's bad? Is there a fuse? Other? Thanks.

Lord have mercy that's a lot of faults.

How old is your battery? My favorite one is "too little telegrams". maybe you need someone to send you more telegrams!

Ha, yes! I need many more telegrams! Yes, it's lots of faults, but I think there's got to be one culprit. You mentioned "how old is my battery?" You are wise, Kyle .. just replaced it this morning with a brand new one, hooked up Carly, deleted the codes, then wham, back on.

Thanks to anyone with input/expertise!

you shouldnt need to replace your BST unless it is deployed, and even if it were deployed it shouldnt register all of those faults. I dont think BST is your problem. Are you sure the car has never been in a crash that resulted in SRS deployment? how long have you owned it?

You might want to bypass your IBS though, clear faults, see what that does for you. also you have an '04, check the trunk and make sure your MPM thats mounted to the floor is relocated to a high and dry spot.

thanks, Kyle. Nope, never in a crash. The trunk and whole car is pristine, not a drop of liquid or even dirt anywhere. I have owned it for five years.

The dealer did replace the passenger seat mat recall work about a year ago. (I didn't have issues before they did it) -- I am wondering if that is the issue, maybe a second faulty seat mat?

I'd like to test by bypassing BST, clearing faults with Carly .. how do I bypass BST? I assume I connect what is connected to the BST directly to the battery? Appreciated.

BST isn't what you want to bypass. BST is the battery safety terminal at the battery, it is part of the SRS and will deploy if the SRS is triggered. the entire purpose of BST is to disconnect the battery IMMEDIATELY when SRS is triggered. if you disable BST, you'll trigger an airbag light.

you want to bypass IBS (intelligent battery sensor). there are plenty of tutorials out there for how to do it.

good luck, not sure if that'll solve your problems but it's free and certainly worth a shot.

Ah, yes. I will give it a shot. I have read and read and read and the acronyms are starting to look the same. Thanks, Kyle. I hope I didn't come off to stooopid!

happy to help. the number of acronyms BMW uses at this point is beyond ridiculous. Even the techs at my dealer have trouble keeping up.

Unfortunately, that's not true. My Restraint System error was cured by replacing the BST, even though it had not deployed and I was able to start the car. It's an easy repair, just a pricey part (~$275 if I recall).
