One more observation about the SMG-red-line-flattening effect is that the engine is fully loaded for the next paddle. It sort of sweeps you forward with momentum.

my question is for the steptronic folks... do you ever feel like the car is starting to accelerate on it's own, usually close after starting it when it's not warm... it seems to hesitate first, then cough/hesitate then react to the acceleration i gave it when it first hesitated, which makes it feel like it's going off under it's own power, a little bit

I've seen a couple posts about people getting software upgrades and claiming that the hesitation problem is fixed.
Maybe there's some truth to this?? Sorry I can't offer any personal experiences since I don't have a Step.

In the E65 730d i upgraded the gearbox software for 3 times.
The factory programming was just fine in what concerns to gear box.
The car went to the dealer to do oil service and they informed that there was available a new software version. They upgraded.
After thata the gearbox was completely different and the hesitation problems started. The car never hesitated before. I went back there and explained them that wasn't working right. They told me to wait a couple of days for the gearbox "learning" my way of driving and everything would be just ok.
After a week later the problem was the same and even worst in the S mode. A week later i was informed that in fact the latest version of software for the gearbox had a problem and wasn't working correctly.
They installed a new one or maybe the previous one and everything is normal again .......

Jimbo - have you ((or anyone else) had this problem solved?
the only time it happens is in D mode, not DS - and that only happens when i forget DS (and so it reminds me to switch)
but the hesitancy is still irritating and shouldn't happen!
