Man it took me an hour to read that estimate. Sorry to hear about your situation. If I were in your shoes I would total the car.

Similar thing happened to me in an Audi S8 last year - ditsy 17YO in a crappy Rover drove straight through a give way into the side of me (wife and kids in the car as well). Sideways across a kerb, which destroyed the front suspension. Amazing thing was, with the double glazing in that car, the glass didn't even come into the car and everyone was ok.

Car was valued at 10000, with repair costs at 7500. Because the salvage value of a large car is significant (in the case of the S8, at least half a tonne of aluminium for a start, let alone value of undamaged parts), the insurance company were fine to write it off. Get a trade in value for yours (adjusted for mileage). If it's less than 22k or so (and I suspect it will be), they will probably be ok with writing it off. But it is their decision, unfortunately. Then you get to argue with them about the value. Gather a portfolio of similar cars for sale off autotrader or similar to use in your arguments. And whatever you do, don't just accept their first offer - you MUST haggle! And don't forget to visit the car and remove all personal items before you hand it over.

Good luck.

First, I am glad you are alright. That is most important. Second, if given the choice - write it off. Besides from the car never being the same, if you eventually try to sell it you might have a difficult time doing it. Good luck and let us know how it goes.

I am glad you are ok.

I would go for total loss. I am positive after repairs this car wont be like it used to it before.
