It's your high fuel pressure pump going bad. Very common with the 535xi's. Look at my history and you'll see what I mean. HELLO EVERYONE IT'S BEEN A WHILE!!

the guy has a 2010 car.
haven't they updated the fuel pumps yet?

No they haven't. I know of three 2010 cars that has the HPFP problems already. One of the cars was only a day old.

Inexcusable on a $60k+ car.

Thanks Rick, it did turn out to be the high pressure fuel pump. All seems to be working great now. I had brought the car in to have it looked at but since no lights were triggered on the dash and I wasn't experiencing any rough idle, the dealer did nothing other than suggest I keep an eye on it, great to hear especially when I had a 500 mile trip planned the following day. Anyhow, returned from the trip still experiencing the hard starting issue but I did end up getting a warning light on my dash. Brought it back the next day and the HPFP was replaced. If it's a known issue, dealer should have made the repair to begin with, oh well. FWIW, problem started occurring at about 3000 miles.

Sad commentary on today's breed of "mechanics."

Have been noticing the last couple of weeks when starting my 2010 535 that the engines turns over yet it can take more than 5 seconds for it to catch. Runs great after but seems to crank way too long. The problem is intermittent and can happen when both cold or warm. Any suggestions??

Late to the party here, but my 2009 535 was experiencing the exact same thing, and then one day on the highway it started missing and hesitating, took it in and they replaced the HPFP and everything is fine and crank time is immediate now. I'd make appt w/ dealer.
