I just had my software updated, but my question is what does the updated software correct or address? I see no difference in the car or menu before and after.
Thanks!
Thanks!

For example: My '08 550 was built in 03/07. When I purchased the car earlier this year, I noted a rough idle on cold starts, the transmission would lag when attempting to accelerate slowly from an almost stop (ie. slowed down for a turn, then attempt to smoothly accelerate around the corner), and the USB iPod interface would constantly revert to a "Now Playing" screen after restarting the car and you couldn't browse the current album/artist/playlist. After a healthy debate with the dealer about whether these issues were "normal operations" of the car, and finally pulling out copies of the US service bulletins (Canada doesn't necessarily have the same SIB's - at least that's what the dealer indicates), they reprogrammed the car in July to the latest versions of the various modules at the time. Result? All of the issues were resolved.
Since then, there have likely been further revisions to the software modules, however unless I experience a specific problem that I know will be resolved, I won't be asking for an update.

With a lot of the recent revisions are dealing with the issues on the N54's
waste gate duty cycles
Fuel pump pressures
engine timing...
Since v28.2 up to v35+ that is why there have been some many over the past 12 months.
Other things are addressed with them , but for the most part they are trying to fix the N54 with firmware/software upgrades/downgrades.
v27_ changed the iDrive menu back ground screen to different color.
29.2 started data logging of abnormal engine parameters ( looking for Tunes)
Servotronic steering lock issue on E9X's
Waste gate duty cycle was changed on N54's , introduced lag , by opening the wast gates up at low rpm to stop waste gate rattle at low rpm...
Some issues with the X3 CIS
30.2 -34.2 mainly dealing with said software induced lag and HPFP failures, waste gate and turbo failures, transmission slam.
