As I understand it, Dynamic Drive can be disabled through software just as Active Steering can. It may have been inadvertently turned off. I agree it is more likely the tires though.

I checked the tire pressure - it was set to specs (36/44 psi front/rear). I lowered each a few pounds, as I rarely have a full load, and it takes some of the edge off the harsh ride.
As for my original question, yes the new tires were probably a factor and things have improved after a few hundred miles. But doesn't the recent software upgrade also include revised active steering settings? If so, not sure I like 'em. <_<
