People keep asking how much it would cost to do these program updates but the only response EVER given is "it's free because you're car is under warranty and you can just find a reason to have them do it".

My car is now at 70K (couldn't buy the extended warranty because i bought the car at a BMW / Audi auction with 10K on it).
I REALLY REALLY REALLY want a progman update and am wondering if anyone can give me hard numbers on what it would cost.
Has anyone done an update out of warranty? I understand that it's up to the discretion of the Service manager / associate and whether
they're attracted to you or not...
...but I just wonder if anyone knows whether they have a reasonable "set" price for out-of-warranty owners who need an update.

Thanks
If you give them a correct reason to perform the update, the'll do it for free under warranty. It's "fixing" something that is false. My car is out of warranty for a long time now, and I still get the updates for free, because it fixes something that they broke or something that has never worked correctly.

BTW, hard numbers can't be given to you, because:

1. Those updates are free, so we don't know how much they would charge, since we never paid for.
2. It allways depends on your car. The more gadgets you have, the longer it takes to perform the update. This can last HOURS, maybe a complete DAY. And finally the cost of labour is different in different places...
