It took my dealer a full day. Most likely a couple hours on the computer, coffee breaks, lunch breaks, cigarette breaks, and then crusing in your car will take up most of the day

Mine took 2 days. The actual software update supposedly only took about 4 hours then they had to reprogram a bunch of modules. Don't know exactly what that means or if it's true, but that's my case.

One day is the norm for an update but often times the whole thing has to be redone due to some error or conflict.

Don't be surprised if one day turns into two or more days -- as with most software oriented things, it all depends on how familiar your dealer is with these things and, more importantly, how lucky they are.

My one day turned into two weeks and 3000 miles on their loaner. While disappointed, I have to admire the dealership for standing by the customer's needs. I could easily find something to downgrade them for if I nitpicked, but the expense to the dealership for customer convenience overshadows any little detail that I might think would have made it a better experience.

Usually a software update takes less than four hours. But dealers tell their customers it takes a full day, since they very often experience problems while doing it and they sometimes have to start it over. Also sometimes they need to reprogramme some modules... In the worst case it can take two or three days...

I'm thinking in upgrading the software in the next service.
What do you think about that?
I have the original version since the car was built (28th april 2004).
Maybe i can get some new functions working like the RDS.
But on the other hand i'm afraid of getting some crazy bugs that i don't have at the moment. I had only a little problem with no AC two times (solved after switching off, and start the car again), and some minor stuff.

Should i ask them to upgrade? Is it worth it? Two days without my car? To get what?

The dealer will tell you to update. Thats what BMWNA tells them. Latest version 13.2 with NAV has no RDS and is slow to boot and less resposnsive. If you are happy don't waste your time unless you have been recalled or you know there is a fix for something that is broken.

I agree. I have 13.2 with NAV. No RDS, slower to boot, windows have the anti trap problem ( ie they stop moving - rarely). I have 11.3 before. Stick with it.
