Finally it happened to me...

Friday, at 9:00 AM, i took the car to oil service, asked them to check some details that were suposed to be solved (some noise in the rear seat, no RDS, some noise when opening the rear doors, activate the double fase break light system, ...).

At 18:00 PM got a phone call by the engineer in charge and he told me that something went wrong while programmnig the several car modules ( April production and never had a software update).

Around 27 updates were made in several modules but ....

...The engine gestion module didn't accept the new program and the previous one was erased.

Conclusion, the car isn't able to start..... IS DEAD!!

Answer:
Something was wrong with the programing of the engine module and isn't possible to solve today....

Solution:
Order a new module from the factory in Germany (and maybe a new one with the programmes installed) next Monday.

So, the module is going to be ordered next Monday, 3-4 days, to be here in Portugal, with a big luck i can have my car back next Friday.

Dealer delivered me a E39 530d to replace my car these next days.

I'M NOT HAPPY AT ALL!!!

What are these fails about ???

This isn't supposed to happen to a 75.000 EUR BMW .......................

I had some BMW's before, E28, E34, E39, E46.

Right now a E46(320d), a E60(730d and here the problems started) and now this E60 that is going to be stopped around 8 days....

Next car to buy? I really don't know ....

Some comments please.

While it's not fun, it happens. I got mine back 28 days later. The good new is that it is like getting to know it all over again -- wo the break in period.

I feel sorry for you man.. Funny thing is I actually liked driving around in a 525d E39.. I thought it was a great car.. Until I got back into my own car... hahaha.. The E60 rocks and is soooo much better then the E39. You'll enjoy your own car even more when you get it back..

Good luck!

Tuga,

Sorry to hear about your problem. I know how you feel but just think about my problem - I had to have a brand new engine fitted due to a collapsed throttle assembly - so reprogramming a control module isn't too bad. I still think my car is great, I just don't rate the dealer who worked on it.

You'll feel better when you get your car back again. Who else makes such a great drivers saloon??

Hi Tuga

The latest iDrive software in the UK is 13.2 (as of November 1)

However, it is probable that in Europe there is a Version 13.3 right now because other people on e60.net have mentioned it.

Settle for nothing less than 13.2 version.

BTW, sometimes the reason for software updates not working is that BMW has a REALLY COMPLICATED way of update and coding via CIP that uses the internet. For this reason, it is very important that the dealer service centre has a good connection to the internet since CIP coding usually takes a few hours (!!!) and most dealers leave the cars connected overnight.

The other interesting point to make is that BMW uses Microsoft Windows XP Embedded!

All the Best

Relax. They gave you a decent loaner to thrash around in. There's more important stuff going on in the world (imho).

What is the dealer ?

I had a similar story in Baviera Lisboa, and after some talk with the man in charge of s/w updates, I admit that they don't have an easy life.

Sometimes the updates don't complete well, and must be restarted. The more modules you have, the longer (hours) they take, and yes, sometimes one of the modules refuses to cooperate and must be replaced.

I guess you must be patient, and you're getting a decent loaner.

In my case the u/g was a good thing, as it solved some minor problems and the system is rock solid now (i-drive never crashed again after the u/g).

Good luck.
