I had my car totally re-coded, after I sent in with a list of niggles. They said there was a known auto gearbox issue which would mean they would do the car on that alone. Mainly jerky shifts in DS mode was my complaint.
Some of the other things now also fixed, a few other niggles have crept in since. It is in for an oil service soon, so will send in another list in advance.

1. Primarily I have had two punctures, in the same off-side front tyre, neither caused the Flat Tyre Monitor to trigger. The first resulted in an almost total loss of pressure, the second I found when it was reduced to just about 50%. In both cases, I spotted the offending screw at the end of a journey and checked the pressure there and then. This one is a safety issue, which I why I booked the car in rather than wait until the next service to get all this looked at.
{No fault was found, despite road tests and diagnostics of the sensors etc. - looking at going to non RFTs after this, both screws did not go through the whole tyre. Air was leaking between tyre layers.}
2. Using the DAB radio, it goes to 'No Signal', then will sit there until you choose another station. Often this is when I'd expect a traffic bulletin (i.e. on the hour, 15 min interval during rush hour etc.). It can do this when sitting in a jam, and flipping from say Radio 2 to Radio 1 will restore it - so it is not a signal loss thing. It has never changed to FM if the signal goes (as happens up North where there is no DAB coverage), despite the setting being turned on.
{This still happens, but not a bad as before. Could be a faulty aerial module they said, linked to 3}
3. The TMC traffic for the SatNav will disappear at odd times, and not come back until the car has been left off for some time. I have found that if I stop to fill with fuel, it will work when I restart the car. Leave it for say 10/15 minutes and restart, TMC will not come back until the car has been off for a while. I have a 2007 map disk, but trying a borrowed 2009-1 disk did not solve the issue. At times, it will take up to 30 mins before the TMC will come up when the car has been left for some time (i.e overnight).
{This still happens, but not a bad as before. Could be a faulty aerial module they said, linked to 2}
4. When my partner drives, with the 2nd key, the seats and mirror memory etc. often will not move to her settings when she opens the car. We have also found that if we swap over during a journey, the car reverts to all metric displays (km, l/km etc.). This seems to be triggered by us getting out, I lock the car, we swap sides and she unlocks the car (seats don't move as above) and starts the car, everything goes metric. If we swap back, everything stays metric until the car has be left locked for some time. Both keys settings are set to the correct formats. The shock is when you look at the odometer, it suddenly jumps up quite a bit as it changes to km. I have tried to replicate this at home, but it seems to need to car to have been on for a while before it will happen. Note I have comfort access.
{This could be linked to CA, as unlocking by touching the door handle and just starting often will not trigger a seat move etc. However, unlocking with the remote, or putting the remote in the steering column will trigger the change. The odd km/miles change is resolved though}
5. When using the reverse-dipping feature for the near-side door mirror, it will often not return to the normal position correctly after a few uses. It is handy, but I have stopped using it as a result.
{came back NFF, but still happens. More so when you fold the mirrors now - which is odd}
6. A few times, at the end of a journey when I stop the engine, the doors have not unlocked automatically. Pressing the button on the dash has unlocked everything. It has only happened a few times, but did it again this week so I made a note to let you know.
{Hasn't happened since the update}
7. When the phone rings, the display will quickly show an incoming call. However, it will at times just mute the audio source and take some time to play a ring tone in the car (or not at all). At times I have missed a call, as I didn't spot the display change until it was too late as I had the audio either turned down low or on mute. It seems to be random, at times it works great, at others there is this long delay or no ring tone at all. It has done this on both my previous and current phones, which are both on the BMW supported list and were fitted in appropriate snap-in adapters. It doesn't matter what the audio source is.
{Much better since the update, haven't missed a call since. I have an iPhone 3g with v3 software}
8. If you have the autobox in DS rather than D, and end up in traffic - the gear change can become very jerky, as if it is dropping the clutch. Put it into D and everything smoothes out again. When in DS and on a clear road, everything is just fine - it seems to be restricted to slower town type speeds.
{Again fixed, but it was jumpy initially then settled down. DS is MUCH more responsive than before. This one had a 'PUMA' reference and meant they would re-code the entire car}
The updates are in italics. In total it took 7 hours to program the car, the chap had never had one take as long. {No fault was found, despite road tests and diagnostics of the sensors etc. - looking at going to non RFTs after this, both screws did not go through the whole tyre. Air was leaking between tyre layers.}

The worst side-effect has been with an attached iPod. Often now it will 'forget' the playlist I was on and just start from song 1 again when I start up. It never did this before and is really quite annoying! Sound seems to have more bass, especially from the FM and DAB radio than before. Generally I'd say it does sound better since the update.
Hope this is of some help.

How much was it to update your software at the dealer?
I have the non-navi Idrive. My graphic is very dark, looks old and I want to have the clean graphics of the current Idrive.
Does anyone know if the dealer can update my software???

Hi,
Only little info,
I have CIP 22. and with Navi business, DVD hardware. I tested the last Navi DVD for Europe 5,2 GB on a DVD+R DL, and it worked. Then I tested a DVD-RW with more then 1500 songs and both worked perfect during my last vocation through Europe.
Also I heard that the latest CIP software improve the graphic performance on the display so now is possible (on the smaller display) to see map during navigation, not only arrows.
I can recommend from my oven experience: Check your dealer (ask people how did it) for software updating before you take decision to do it.
Best regards!

business nav was updated in 2007 with a 2d display for the LCI model, no update can add this to the original business nav MASK unit because the hardware is different

Highly unlikely, since you don't have NAV more than likely you'll need newer in-dash CD player.

Ok thanks for clearing that up .. so is it just a matter of aquiring a cd player from say 2008 e60 and plug it in and then get dealers to code it all ??
Also , im sure that I read somewhere other with same setup as me ( no nav or cd changer ) and car been 2004 - 2005 have mp3 working without any hardware changes ??
Also anyone know anywhere in UK ( close to midlands ) that knwo what they are doing with regards to software updates , as dont really have much faith in my local dealers
Thanks

Thanks
Anyone done this?, would appreciate if some-one has exerience of replacing the units over. I notice the newer LCI units have additional buttons under the slot so not sure if they would work.
These guys are based in Birmingham http://www.navtvman.co.uk

I understand that there will be a further software update sometime this month as my dealer has asked me to wait for it with a view to fixing a few niggles I have which previous software updates have not cured.
see: https://5series.net/forums/index.php?showto...mp;#entry977375
As per the discussion, it is only likely to be bug fixes and no major enhancements, but I'll let everyone know when it is done, what ISTA/P version it is, and a changelog if I can find out.
