The dealer just upgraded my '06 550i from its original software to the latest version. There are lots of little changes to the colors, readability, etc., but the two BIGGEST things I notice are:

-The fuel pump now primes to build up pressure as soon as a door is opened. It didn't do that originally, and I had occasionally long cranking times when starting up.

-The MP3 player now reads ID3 tags, showing the proper titles for music, instead of the file names.

The car also seems a little more aggressive about pulling timing when accelerating, resulting in a slight power loss, but this is so small it's no big deal. And I'd much rather have pulled timing than broken ringlands on our crappy California gas.
Recognizing ID3 tags is great!!!! My MP3 player still only shows filenames which at times are cut off. What did you tell your dealer to have them upgrade the software?

Thanks Blood for the feedback. 7 HRS is a long time and it will cost a lot of $$$ to do....
not sure how it works in the US but here in the UK we can have updates at our request, most dealers here charge a maximum 2 - 3 hours labour about ?2-300, a fully equipped car has about 60 different
modules doing at least one thing or another.

depends how important you feel it is.

I too have an 06 550i. Did you get he MP3 player installed? Mine didn't come with it and I would have to pay some dough to get it installed. Was told it would eliminate my 6 CD holder.

How much was it to update your software at the dealer?
I have the non-navi Idrive. My graphic is very dark, looks old and I want to have the clean graphics of the current Idrive.
Does anyone know if the dealer can update my software???

i think there is a misunderstanding.
If he wants to get the MP3 (USB /IPhod mount) (The Hardware) in the car he will have to give the CDC away.
you cant have both without installing a GW500 ex.

I had my car totally re-coded, after I sent in with a list of niggles. They said there was a known auto gearbox issue which would mean they would do the car on that alone. Mainly jerky shifts in DS mode was my complaint.

Some of the other things now also fixed, a few other niggles have crept in since. It is in for an oil service soon, so will send in another list in advance.
