software update

how would you know if you received a software update??
I have a 04 525 and I took it in for the an RDS problem (station/song names) wouldn't stay checked. My service advisor said they performed a software update but it doesn't say it on my service performed receipt. The update didn't fix the problem so my SA said that is the reason it wasn't documented on the receipt. How do I know if it was really done (IDRIVE looks the same, and appears to have the same functions). My SA told me to return with the car early next week after his engineers kick around the problem.
Is there is way to check on IDRIVE for the software version (as far as I know the car has never had an update previously)
