If you reach some u/g limit it will not be your problem, they must hand over a new ECU under general warranty terms.
You're absolutely right! It's BMW problem, not ours unless the car is out of warranty.
Could be feasible - it depends on the technology used within the ECU for storing the data. Some technologies only survive a small number of writes before they start to lose data.
13 does sound low though.
Hrmm - doesn't really sound right to me. Bit rot in flash storage generally happens when an image has been there too long, and can usually be -remedied- by a re-flash. Unless they keep writing the new images to the flash directory and never erase the old ones (which would be stupid), there shouldn't be a limit.
For example, with Cisco routers, if you only have enough flash to hold one software image, the flash is erased (while the router is running on the image loaded into main memory), and the new image is loaded into the freshly erased flash. Reboot, and it loads the only image it has - the new one. Problem is, if something goes wrong and you reload the router with an incomplete or corrupt image, bad bad things happen. If you have flash memory space equal to 2x the size of an image, you don't have to erase, and can just load the new image and boot from the new one the next time the system loads. I guess to avoid confusion they could have made the flash rather large to accomodate many images (13 sounds high), but who knows? Maybe there isn't a squeeze function? (or they haven't discovered it)

Ive had some creaking from the door seals at low speed and an odd noise from where the seatbelt comes out of the side pillar so i guess im booking the car in for September time to get the upgrade and these fixed. I still dont have perspective map and I drive is definitly slower than it should be but hey ho.
BMW (France) told me they are expecting a MAJOR CIP version (19.0) to be released in Europe Mid-September that should fix ALL bugs (!) and provide MP3 for NAV.
I don't have any list of fixes nor the list of new bugs that will be generated.?
They told me it should fix at least amber LEDs issue, TMC (traffic info), transmission problems (steptronic), headlight sensor issues, Bluetooth with new mobiles ...
Wait and see

I work in the SW industry and one thing is for Sure,
MAJOR Release ==> New functionality & Lots of New Bugs
I hope that they do some serious testing of this version before they test it on us poor owners.

I was interested to see that you had some information from BMW France. I can't get any sense out of them at all. Is there an email address/address that provides a contact ?
