Interesting...from BMW's website:

"Soft close automatic.

Effortless and quiet: Soft close automatic ensures that the doors of your BMW are securely closed with a minimum of exertion and without unpleasant noise.

In tight parking spaces or whenever a gentle closing of the door is appreciated, Soft close automatic provides a helping hand: simply push the door until it is almost closed. When the door is within approximately 6 mm of the lock, sensor activates an electric motor that pulls the door firmly and quietly closed and secures it. The components of the door locks are automatically returned to their original position.
The door can be opened again at any time. The soft close automatic process is also run whenever the door is manually closed, to ensure the door is properly shut.

Models that use this technology

* 5 Series Sedan
* 5 Series Touring
* 6 Series Coup?
* 6 Series Convertible
* 7 Series Sedan
* X5
* M5 Sedan
* M5 Touring"

I'm just the messenger (don't shoot me). Of course I realize we don't have soft close on our current E60s, but I found it interesting that this BMW site...
http://www.bmw.com/com/en/insights/technol..._automatic.html
...says it should at least be an option.

(I was at my local BMW dealer the other day and saw an older lady taking delivery of her new 7. I must say, seeing the soft close function was pretty darned impressive. But who wants an option that appeals to older ladies?? )
