I just finished changing my rotors and pads on my 04 545i. I did a quick drive around the block and the brake pedal is very soft. I haven't checked the fluid level, but I have never had the level fall after replacing pads in the past. If anything the level has risen in the past when replacing pads and rotors.

FYI, I put the following on as replacements from R1Concepts:

Ordered: 1 Shipped: 1 kdbrakeparts 2004 Bmw 545i F/R PREMIUM DD/S rotors + F/R Axxis Ultimate Brake pads $575.00 Ship Date:

Ordered: 2 Shipped: 2 120.34071 BMW Premium Series Brake Rotors $0.00 Ship Date:

Ordered: 2 Shipped: 2 120.34072 BMW Premium Series Brake Rotors $0.00 Ship Date:

Ordered: 1 Shipped: 1 109.09180 Axxis Ultimate Brake Pads $0.00 Ship Date:

Ordered: 1 Shipped: 1 109.09190 Axxis Ultimate Brake Pads $0.00 Ship Date:

Anyone have any ideas or what I might need to do. I will check the fluid level in the morning. It got too late tonight. Had to help the wife get the kids to bed.

Yep, bot them directly from R1. May have overpaid a bit as I didn't take time to shop around. They were easy to deal with and answered all my questions, so I felt good about dealing with them directly.

I think I found the problem. I couldn't go to bed without looking into it a bit more. It looks like I purged some fluid out when I compressed the caliper to fit the new pads. I need to add fluid to it. That should help stiffen the pedal up a bit wouldn't it?

You overpayed a little...You have to bed in the brakes like gene said...But the brakes won't feel 100% like stock...They are a little softer....

Thanks for the feedback! Bringing the fluid level back up to max should help as well hopefully.

what made you go for the ultimate axxis instead of the axxis xbr's semi?
I'm looking to change my pads soon and i'm still debating between those two, but i do not want a soft pedal.

Soft or spongy brake pedal After changing rotors and pads can be due to air in the system. Did you bleed all four wheels?
