I think I have come to the realization that its best NOT to buy a new BMW until it is 2-3 years into the model run... otherwise you sorta get screwed (first bluetooth, Sirius, NAV, now mp3)...

That's BMW's game and Lexus follows suit.

I have always held to that belief for all my car purchases. I think it is a good 'rule of thumb' for any complex consumer machine or system. There always seems to be a price to pay if you want to be the first one on the block with the new widget.

From what i understand 16.1 gives mp3 support to anyone with radio pro which in the US i belive is only avalible with the premium sound. my car is in service right now to get 16.1 and i will post as soon as i get it back if 16.1 in the us does indeed have mp3 capability

(PS it seems IceMan is always right)

That's why I think leasing the first widget is best

What is radio pro?

I dropped off the car at the dealer and my SA has no clue what the latest software is. He did tell me that I wouldn't get mp3 though. I'll be going from 12.x to hopefully 16.x

so, if you have nav and L7 you will be able to listen to MP3's in the future, right?

If you have nav (bus or pro) you have the radio pro.
So in the US, if you have nav, you have the radio pro, what can play MP3's after a software update in September.

Ha Ha on me... I put my car in on Monday and went to Texas and the car was done with 16.2 today, Tuesday.

My wife picked up the car and SB is in the glove box. I won't be home till Thursday, but my wife says the NAV looks "different".

Keep you posted Thursday night, hopfully with a scan of the Service Bulletin.

Sorry about the double post, also to the 16.1 thread.
