Finally, at 8900 miles my first oil change is due.
While I am at it I would like to update the SW version since it is been extremely slow on occasion (especially after the initial start up). it literally takes 5-10 seconds before i-drive aknowledges the action selected i would like to get the 16.2 version because of the 3D-Nav.

so, what is the availability of 16.2 here in the USA? anyone upgraded their SW yet?

thanks

I am in for my first oil change tomorrow. My SA "thinks" the version they now have is 16.1. I wanted the update to get MP3 feature but from what I have read on other threads, that seems to be a no go for MY 2004 with standard radio.

I will check tomorrow and post any additional info.

I agree.. what a confusing mess. First it sounded like MP3 capability was only available for non-Nav cars in 16.2. Now it seems you have to have a non-Nav with Logic 7?? I'm sure this is still not correct.

And what about CIP 17.0? Sheeeeesh...

There seems to be confusion

Sources said MP3 function will come with 16.2 or 17.0 The sources i know are in Europe

So far 16.2 has given European cars with Business Nav MP3 capability

Apparently some new USA cars are playing MP3, but noone knows what software hey have on them

There are differences between USA and European cars, so the availability of MP3 may come at different times.

In europe one needs the professional radio to get MP3 ( its standard in the USA )

You NEED pro radio, and it'S NOT standard in the USA.

MP3 with CIP 16.1 available for:

radio pro
nav bus

In Septmeber it will become availale for:

nav pro (US nav)

Not available for radio bus (standard radio)

Has nothing to do with L7 or not.

I'm still confused..... You need pro radio which is not standard in the US and is not L7. Is there some intermediate step between HiFi and L7? If not what is pro radio.

Iceman, the US only gets two types of radio: regular (non Logic 7), and Premium Sound (which includes L7). Do you think US "Premium Sound" includes "Radio Pro"?

My car is MY 2004 and has the standard (US) radio, no Nav. Its in for service today and the SA just called with the news that an upgrade to 16.2 will not give me MP3 capability. "You need more than a software upgrade." I am currently running 15.2.

Evidently, Iceman is right again (as usual). The CD player in the standard US radio will not support MP3.

just scheduled service appt. for the 4/27. i hope my dealership will have 16.2 by that time. i am really getting tired of i-drive being so slow after initial start-up. it is practically not useable for the first 5-10 minutes.

so, if you have nav and L7 you will be able to listen to MP3's in the future, right?

Looks like if we want MP3 with the standard radio, we'll have to upgrade radios, probably $1,000 or more...
