I also had something about high emissions warning too. Cleaned up the pressure regulating valve and it helped a lot, so i ordered a new replacement.

Anyways the car runs like a champ with the replacement of the diaphragm and spring. Car idles great and the car take off from the stop light like a normal car should. I recommend anyone who has issues with rough running, idle issues, or even funky throttle issues at stop lights to try replacing this valve. With the part remove I can see no issues with the part but replacement of this part make a world of difference.

and after a week of driving the check engine light also cleared on its own.



Here is the strange part.

One came looking like it should but the other was missing a nipple. Was not broken but just looked like it was not cast correctly. Whats up with that? Anyone run into this? Of course I just replaced the diaphragm and spring since the cover was missing the nipple.

Interesting I see that on one of the post there was a link to http://www.xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-foru...-pictures.html and on this model there is no nipple on the cover.

bmw probably just eliminated the nipple, since it doesnt connect to anything.

That's weird because on my model it has a hose connected to both.

Actually the link was a X5 and they do not have a hose in that model with the 4.4...

This is my 545i

Yep, my 2004 545i has the hose from the crankcase ventilation covers to the air intake just like pictures above. The replacement covers did not have the nipple. The hose is not under vacuum as the 545i really doesn't have vacuum in the intake manifold. My thoughts are the hoses are to route oil from a failed diagram into the intake to get burned away. This is probably a bad idea could lead to hydrolock of the cylinders in a freak failure mode or conditions. I wonder if BMW assumed it would be better to dump the oil on top of the valve cover than introduce it back into the intake manifold and thus engine.

Just a thought. So, on early N62 engines. Delete the line leading from the crancase vent covers and plug the nipple on the air intake duct.
