Well it was the fuel pump. I had to take the little one to Tae Kwon Do but afterwards I just got a cheapy HF fuel gauge. and hook it up. The pump will register barely anything but it enough to make it spit out and fill a quart container with no resistance pretty quick.
like most electric motors they have brushes or contacts that wear. I just had to make that contact again so I took a rubber mallet and banged under the gas tank and tried starting the car.
Guess what?... it started.
Its just a matter of time before it loses contact again.
Now I just have to figure out how to replace the fuel pump.

I think there is an access panel under the rear seat. The usual 4 bolt hatch thing, if I remember correctly. Sorry to hear about the fuel pump.

So I ordered a pump, and filter. Bimmer specialist had it OEM for cheaper than what I could get a aftermarket unit for locally and the local place had to order it!

Ok put it all together and it all runs.
Pain in the ass.
Yes you do have to remove the fuel (driver's side of the tank) filter to replace the fuel pump. Yes I did replace the fuel filter. Yes it was expensive (~$200). Yes the Fuel pump is expensive too. >$260
Yes the tank need the be a half tank or less to replace everything,
No when you buy the oem brand (bosch) fuel filter and the the fuel pump it does not come with replacement o-rings.
And for those interested my car has about 104k. I got it about 20k ago and I do run the gas level down until the warning goes on before filling. When looking at the bottom of the tank it was spotless, no crud, no sand inside looks to be painted a light grey
Boy I really need to buy a manual.
