Hi Bill,
There are two different offsets/widths for the style 135 wheel;
- for 3 series cars there are: front 8x18 ET47 and rear 8,5x18 ET50 --> if you want to mount these into a 5er, you will need spacers to clear the struts
- for 5 series cars there; front + rear 8x18 ET20 --> no need for spacers.
However, if you want a flushed look in 5er with even the right wheel offsets (ET20), you will need spacers (New spacers for my winter setup ). But spacers are not needed to clear the struts, when using the right offset style 135 in a 5er .

I haven't put my 20mm spacers on yet, because all metal surfaces have been too cold last days! I don't need any more burn injuries (than my foot) for this year anymore haha!
But the weather looks promising :
