Smokers Package removal

I bought my e60 used and it came with a smokers package(ashtrays in rear doors and front console) Has anyone had experience with removing the rear ashtrays - i would prefer to just have the storage

The tray pops out but the hole that is left is not smooth inside. Hole is pretty small anyway.
