I have an SMG and the transmission slam issue. I brought the car in and had the 16.2 upgrade which did not fix the issue. The dealer opend a PUMA case and was advised by Germany to replace the entire transmission.
While waiting fort he replacement to arrive, I read about the SIB stating that 17.X should fix the issue. I spoke to my SA and the shop foreman about the SIB and possible fix. The foreman contacted Germany again and was apparantly advised that 17.X would not be a fix for the SMG. The car is in right now for the transmission replacement. And winshield replacement too, but that is another story.
They are also changing my oil at about 8,500 miles and without the service/oil light coming on. I was told it was based on my gas consumption data. I guess they can tell from the cumulative MPG how hard a car is driven and adjust oil change accordingly.

The only transmission "slam" with my SMG that I've experienced is when trying Accelleration Assist. I've only tried it a few times. By any chance when starting off does the clutch engage at 4,000 rpm??

I had one today. I drove down a street trying to catch a green light. Was maybe going 40 mph, braking and downshifted from 4th to 3rd for a right turn. The car suddenly jumped forward like I was hit hard by someone behind me!!! Totally scared me.
This is getting scary........

Never had that. SMG is a beautiful thing. Will never drive anything else...
Launch assist is incredible. Yes, about 4000 RPM. Talk about burning rubber...

THats the Slam I get ALL the time before 16.x upgrade... it seems to have solved that for the most part... transmission is smooth 98% of the time now.

I picked up my car this morning. Two days to replace the transmission, the windshiled and some other minor work.
So far, no more slams. Must have been an expensive fix, but my delar, BMWNA and Germany seem to have done the right thing.
