SMG Transmission
#1
Which is easier the SMG Transmission or the 6-Speed Transmission? I am thinking of the getting the SMG tranny but I have read some many posts on it.Do anyone know where I can download a PDF 545i Manual? Wut's up w/ the 06' model do it suppose to get more horsepower? I got to have one just wondering should I go w/ the SMG Transmission or the 6-Speed Steptronic, not good at driving a manual tranny.
Wut would you say is the best thing about the BMW 545i?

You'll find a link to the owner's manual right here.
You can read a bunch about SMG by clicking here and reading the related posts and links.
I'm sure you'll hear from other members about some of your other questions...

When you say you are "not good" with a manual.... do you mean you have had little experience? Or do you mean that you have experience, but could not master the technique?
The SMG is a manual transmission, and has to be driven with much of the same finesse that a stick-shift manual requires. This means learning how to feather the throttle lightly while shifting to prevent jerkiness.
I would say that if you liked driving the manual, but did not get much experience with it.... the SMG might suit you. But if you don't like driving a true manual, then you probably will not like the SMG. I consider the SMG an alternative to a manual, but not an alternative to a Steptronic. But.... that's just my opinion.

The best thing about a 545i is it's better than an E500!

SMG is amazing, but it is a manual without a clutch, not steptronic by any stretch. I would get the SMG - it really brings you closer to the car. The best thing about the 545 is its smooooth.... it eats the road and is so free-revving it just feels like there's no limit.

My Ride: COMING!! 2006 M5 - December build - January delivery.
2004 530i - Silver Gray Metallic; Black Leather; Premium Pkg; Premium Sound Pkg; Cold Weather Pkg; Steptronic; Comfort Seats; Glass Moonroof; Rear Side Airbags; Adaptive Bi-xenon; Euro Rear Reflectors - Delivered 12/3/03
2003 M3 - Carbon Black Metallic; Black Leather; Premium Pkg; Park Distance Control; Xenon; Hardon-Kardon; Alum Int. Trim; SMG - Delivered 2/17/03
I have Steptronic in my 530i and SMG in my M3. Completely different experiences-completely different cars. I did not get SMG in the E60 since I had the M3. The E60 is my family car - the M3 aint! If you are not comfortable with manual I suggest Steptronic. But if you want the feel and fun of stick, get the SMG and when you want it, the automatic mode is available. Its the best of both worlds.
