My 2006 530i SMG suddenly threw up the "Transmission malfunction" message @ 53,000 miles and limited me to geras R, 1,2 and 3. Cost to repair, $1,100. Any experiences?

Happened to my 545i. They replaced the pump and the mechanism that signals the pump to do what it's suppose to do. Luckily, warranty covered the damage. It was more than $2,000 for parts and labor from what I remember. Good luck.

How many miles did you have when they replaced the pump on your 545?

Thanks for he comments. Unfortunately there was no warning. I wish someone would come up with a list of the components that tend to fail! I understand another weak link is the water-pump. Best of luck!!

had a E46 SMG M3 before, pump failed at 68K, cost $3,000 to get a new one in. never buying SMG again. If you have SMG you might as well start a new savings account for the day it fails.
