smg in m3 vs 545i
#1
hey guys,
i was originally going to get a m3, but i'm kinda interested in a 545i with smg
how does smg in the 545i compare to the m3?
does the 545i still have launch control?
Do you still "pull" on the 545i smg paddles just like on the m3 paddles? it looks like you push the buttons on the 545i
thanks
ting

one question....do you still "pull" back on the paddles just like on the m3? from the pics i have seen, it looks like the paddles stick out above the steering wheel for pushing with thumbs...a la audi tip tronic
is this right?

Iceman,
So each paddle on the 545i can both upshift and downshift? is that right?
so if i pull back on the right paddle, it still upshifts, but if i push on it, it will downshift?
is it the same for the left paddle? pull for upshift and push for downshift?
i'm asking b/c i prefer m3 smg style where right paddle is upshift, and left paddle is down shift
thanks

You push and pull the paddles. One direction for upshifts, the other one for downshifts.

The E60 SMG is different from the M3 in the way. Both padles on the E60 up and downshift, while on the M3, one is up only, one id down.
I drove the M3 extensively before owning the E60. I find the E60 much easier.
The E60 is alos less sophisticated. It does not have multiple settings like thte M3. Only normal and sport, manual and "automatic."

Right theres no S1 to S6 but you do have the Sports button which shortens the shifts by a little.
and there is a diluted, toned down "Launch Control" called "Accelerate Assist"

Accelerate assist/Launch control it has, S1-S6 it doesn't - only a sport button.

Yes, pull for upshift and push for downshift. Iceman, Why do you think the E60 Launch Control is watered down?
