Thats nice man, you give me hope that my car will last till the 100k+ mile mark. I want to keep this until the wheels fall off (hopefully not literally and not for a long while).

I was mostly concerned with the electronics and computers in the car, especially the i-drive as well as the ARS etc. I guess its lasted in your car so far.

I wonder what the cost of replacing the i-drive, screen/computer are.

I see that you switched to NON-runflat tires, did the ride improve? What about road noise? I noticed both "issues" in my 06 530i sport package car (with runflats), but I understand they are characteristics of the tires/wheels/suspension of the sport package.

Nice pic by the way!

Had the hydraulic pump go on mine at 34K miles. I was on the way home to Seattle from Oregon with a trunk full of cases of wine. Had a friend meet me at the dealer so we could transfer the wine to his car. Took the dealer (BMW Seattle) about two days to fix. I was lucky that it went bad about 5 miles for the dealer instead of somewhere in Oregon wine country. Replaced it under warranty but cost would have been around $1500 or so.

Love the car and SMG. It is too bad they don?t sell them anymore.

I have had/have 6 BMWs, currently, my other one is an ?87 M6.

That sucks to hear.....but it seems like you got a lot of happy use out of your SMG, and the $1,500 mark for repair is not that bad considering it's a BMW!

Did you notice anything different in the driving characteristics before you had the problem? Was the shifting/driving giving any indication before hand?

The tranny went out in my Tahoe several years ago, and it was about $1,400 to have it rebuilt, so if you got a 100grand out of your tranny and it can be repaired for around that price, thats not too bad.

Anyway GL with your repairs, I hope you get it back in action soon, and yes keep us SMG guys posted.

I don't think your the highest. A couple of diesel 5-er owners on here have at least 200k km's, which is about 130k miles.
I've bought mine at 80k miles (with warranty ofcourse), because most 5-ers are lease over here and this is the point when the first 5-ers are falling out of the lease.

Luckily, mine is not an ex-lease, had only 1 owner (which lives in my neighbourhood). The only reason i bought it via a dealer is the warranty.

Not related to SMG, but my car has 242,000km or 150,000 miles on the clock, not sure that's the most on here, but the car still looks new.

latho,

Can you tell me what issues you had and at how many miles? Did the car ever break down mechanically? How about I-Drive and the computers? What model of 5er?

Its impressive that the car has held up after 150k miles!

Hey there, so did you figure out what went wrong with smg?
If not, go visit http://www.m3forum.net/m3forum/showthread....p;highlight=smg
Because there aren't that many e60 smgs out there, I often visit e46 M3 forum to learn more about
SMG. E46 forum users pretty much covered every problem smg is having. It seems that
the last thing they replace is the hydrualic pump. Often it could be fixed very cheap.

Good luck

Good News, Bad News, You know I had my share! The problem with my SMG was the clutch actuator. Actually found a good guy that runs his own deal and has the right factory tools to do the job. Fair hourly rate and I am finding the part, lists for 1050, so I should pay at least 15% OFF of that. So, with new plugs and a few other 100k plus mile doo-dads, I should get out for around 2k. Driving the MINI Cooper S (freshly detailed with PINNACLE) and IROC Convertible on the weekends, so it hasnt been too bad! LOL
