My Ride: 2008 535i: June 6th start build, complete June 17th, at NY Port July 5th, at dealer July 10th, took delivery Friday July 13- Plantimum Bronze/Natural Brown Leather/Light Poplar, Sport Package, Sport Auto, Active Steering, Premium Package, CWP & PDC. Dinan Performance Software 384hp & 421 ft/lbs.
I use Lysol sprayed in both the outside lower windshield air intake and the recirculate air intake in the footwell (in recirculation mode). This takes care of it as well.

Just in case that doesn't work...
Recently I had a peculiar smell when starting up my Lexus. It reminded me of the smell of natural gas (not gasoline). After a week or so of that, just lasting a few seconds, it became longer lasting and more intense.
I took it to the dealer and $325 later they had removed the dead rat from my ventilation system. Fortunately, with shampooing the entire interior, they banished the smell.

My Ride: 2007 525i (not LCI) - Alpine white, M sport package, Comfort seats, Logic 7, Bluetooth, Xenon adaptive headlights, PDC, sunroof, A/C with extended features, etc.
thanks guys...that helps a lot
and i agree that BMW should do something about it....and this smell started coming just a month after i bought the car brand new.
however, my car was lying at the sea port (in a sealed container obviously) for about 6 months. dealer was having some trouble dealing with the government to get the container out.
thanks again. appreciate it...
