Small turbo m57 stops working when hot
Hi I have a strange problem. I've an e60 2004 525d and when the car is fully warm after driving for over 20mins the small turbo gives up. No power low down until after 2-2.5k then full boost at normal.
The thing that I don't get is is the actuator is faulty shouldn't it be faulty all the time? When the car is cold its absolutely fine besides from a constant modifier which remains throughout the rev range.

Ok thbaks guys. Will get any codes read on Monday. I recently had it read but only came up with misfire cyl 1-6 and glow plug control unit.
On a second note once the car is warmed up between 1700-2000rpm under light load it rattles almost like a petrol engine with tappet wear so it sounds very tappy. Could this be play in the turbo?

Also would cleaning the turbo help with sticking? Which could explain why the small turbo won't come on because only the big turbo is stuck on?
What have people used to clean the turbo without removal and opening? Ie is there anything that can be added to the fuel or air supply that can clean deposits?
I've heard of people using 10k octane boost or something like that how does that work?

525d has only 1 turbo. So suppose its a 535d which has 2.
i would check the vacuum lines, common problem with the 535d.
But very lickely the turbo is dead. And there is no cure for that beside replacing.

Hi guys just an update problem sorted. Was the glow plug control module switching on the glow plugs at the wrong times causing incorrect readings and the turbo would cut out. No idea how that's linked. But after changing it the problem has gone away. Also had the maf cleaned.
