Bleh my idrive feels really sluggish and dealer said no update is due for my car. Wants me to take it in and do an inspection for $160 and up. T_T

I had to have mine replaced for $2000, was starting to just reboot, then would not turn on untill next day, then just quit entirely. Hope your problem is simpler...they had to replace the entire computer for the system...
good luck

Were they certain that no update was available? I took mine in for the same problem (under warranty) and the dealer updated the firmware and recreated the boot file for the CCC. It's like a brand new system now, responds much quicker and boots from cold-start faster too..

well the i only asked one dealer and the SA said my VIN doesn't show any updates for my 06 550i. I thought since they use VIN to check, it's probably not effective to ask other dealers.
but this sluggishness really annoys me. Especially randoming mp3s on the CD

aha! a clue - is it still sluggish if you remove all CD/DVDs from the car? (can't tell if you have a nav slot or the 6-disk changer) If you have the changer, just pull it out entirely and empty your drives. Then how does it behave?

thx, i'll give that a try. Even though it would be meaningless if idrive is faster when i can't listen to music. I'm mainly complaining about the slowness when it plays music. XD

Wynn, what kind of car did you end up with? warranty? not sure why you wouldn't demand it be fixed at the dealer if you are warrantied. having a slow idrive would infuriate me!!

I bought it from a member that was CPO'd. extended maintenance till feb/2012 and I think I only have CPO warranty left. Maybe I'm mistaken, but I remember I read it somewhere that iDrive isn't covered under warranty (at least not CPO).
Dealer wants at least $165 just to diagnose the problem that causes it....
I'm such a noob and I feel like I would be dragged into their traps if I didn't have this forum to ask help from =(
