Slow AC Cooling in Hot Weather Purple HUE Windshield
I thought I would throw this out there... Over the years I've notice a lot of complaints about slow AC cooling in the summer. I too had this issue. Normally, on a sunny day and temps of 85+ the car was always very hot inside and with AC in max it would take a couple minutes before the air coming from the vents was cold and several more long minutes while driving before the cabin started feeling like it was cooling. One thing I noticed is that when the car was in my garage or on a non sunny day, I didn't have this problem, it only seemed to be while out in the sun. The other year I finally broke down and purchased one of those silly looking windshield reflectors. As silly as it looked, it actually did provide some improvement with helping the car cool quicker.
Now for the interesting part... Back in May I had my windshield changed and went through USAA. Here I spoke with no one and only had four choices to choose from. First one was HUD, so that was easy. Then it came the the next three which kinda seemed the same except for the last one which was OEM and mentioned a purple hue. I had no idea what this was but liked the fact that it was OEM! I chose this glass and the install went flawlessly. The following week my I noticed my NAV no longer worked. It could not located the car's position. My antenna is was in the IP speaker slot. DBond mentioned the purple hue didn't allow for the antenna to transmit through the glass. I did a little research on this and the glass and it turns out to be a solar reflective coating. I've noticed since the hot weather has hit I haven't installed these windshield reflectors and on a hot day the AC blows cold almost instantly, even while sitting idle! I have to say the issue that I had is no longer there. Now I know some of you have have similar issues with the ac cooling and this windshield may not solve your problem, but if your situation is like what I had, there is a very good chance that it will.
In the end, I had a Fakra cable made to connect the Nav to the shark fin. There is a scaloped clear area either side of the mirror mount that will allow for toll checkers, radar detectors and antennas...
