So...while attempting to change out my headlight bulbs, I somehow chipped off a piece on one of the headlight housings. It's not the side of the housing where the light emits from, but the housing that faces the engine bay. To be more specific, it's part of the rim where the removable cover sits (angeleye/high beam compartment on a MY05 - adaptive xenons).

Everything is functional but my concern is the inside of the headlight is exposed (about a 2 cm hole is visible). will just patching it up with some electrical tape be fine or are there other things that i have not considered that could cause a problem. I'm thinking i should be fine but just wanted to get some additional input. Thank everyone

Your concerns are valid.

Solution, in a word, SILICONE! Caution, some will do not adhere well to certain plastics.

In my old E61 I dropped the rubber cover from the back of the lamp housing and could not retreive it, so I covered it with electrical tape, and it worked fine... I'm sure yours will be the same... :)

Both electrical tape and silicone should suffice, but I would lean on using silicone. There are several types for different materials. Get the one specific for your needs and you should be good.

+1 on the silicon. You don't want any moisture getting in there.

if your car is still under warranty why not try to talk to your dealership and maybe they'll replaced it?? just don't tell them that you played around with it, coz with me i asked my dealer to change my shift knob that has scratches, i know its just a shift knob but they gave me a brand spanking new one :D just try it! good luck!!! :thumbsup:

That person used waaaayyyy too much silicone on those headlights. The hole to be filled was way farther down too.
