Has anyone heard if there is (or will be) the possibility to add Sirius for an '04 equipped with NAV and pre-wired for Sirius? I have read that nav+Sirius is now available for '05 models...seems to me this should allow for Sirius in an '04.

No official word yet. The last I heard, they're still working on it. Just because it now works on MY05 cars doesn't automatically mean that it'll work with MY04 cars. They may have made some changes to hardware, etc. to get it working on the 2005 cars.

I'm still optimistic but becoming impatient with this...

My car is an April 04 build, and it is in the shop (since Thursday ) for Recalls, etc.

I was quoted $560.14 to add Sat radio to my car. The Car had the SAT prep. I told them to go ahead and do it.

Wow! That's great news!! I'll be anxious to hear from you when it's in and working -- so, to be extra clear, you have a MY2004 car with navigation and sat prep and they're saying they can add Sirius, right?

I hope this isn't going to turn into one of those "the dealer was wrong" deals!

Keeping my fingers crossed....

Well, maybe I was a bit pre-mature. I gave them the 'go ahead' on Friday, and just got a call that SAT doesn't work with Nav. I swear. It's like beating your head against the wall. How many times have I asked this guy about SAT with my NAV? 100? Then, an 'oh yeah, we can do that'. and then this.

Oh well, I guess at least I saved $600ish.

If anyone knows a service bulliten or anything that says differently, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks,

James

Well, while you were typing that reply, I was on the phone to my Service Advisor asking him to check out this possibility and put me "in line" for any backordered parts.

I imagine he's going to call me back with the same (bad) news...

jksanford,

i got a pdf bulletin when I ordered my car in March that said that as of that timeframe, BMW would no longer install sat. prep in any cars with NAV because it was incompatible. They said that there would be a software fix for the problem around this time of 04. So it seems amazing that you actually got the sat. prep. with NAV.....

I had heard a rumor that maybe those cars that had NAV also had some kind of prep incorporated into their system for Sat. and this might have allowed the retrofit at some point.

I was told by BMWNA that Sat. is available for cars now but only if they have sat prep installed. But they can't tell me if my car has it, or not.

Any progress with your car would be great to know about.....

I spoke to BMW Customer Relations today and the guy I talked to said that as of October 1st, 2004 (the date of the last bulletin he has), they still have not resolved the issue with 2004 cars and navigation.

He said that they are trying to figure out a solution but that it's not the "primary focus" right now and we should not expect anything resolved until spring. He said I should call after January 1st to see if there is any updated information.

I think we need to organize our members here to let them hear our unified voice as to why this needs to be moved up at least a little bit on the priority scale.

Anyone agree?
