Are you driving under a bridge, or under big trees?? They can temporarily block the signal from the satellite!!

+1

Also ensure that all antenna connections are secured and making good contact. Are you using the Sharkfin or an aftermarket antenna?

Never, unless you drive under a bridge or go through a tunnel.

Thanks guys. I definitely notice it cut out under a bridge, in a garage, or in a tunnel but it seems to cut out at other points as well. I live in the Bay Area and I get the feeling there are some bad spots near hills and things like that. I am using the sharkfin antenna.

If the line of sight between your antenna and the satellite is obstructed (trees, bluffs, tall structures, etc.) you will get intermittent reception until you are clear of the obstacles.

too many bad spots in the Sirius satellite system. When I had XM, it was much better. Sirius/XM needs to get their act together on this as there are way too many breaks in the signal and I am not talking about tunnels or bridges.

It happens to me in certain spots in my commute every day (even though there are no obstructions).

most signals to/from a satellite would be like this in an area with obstructions. satellite radio just happens to be what we notice. for two reasons.... you are driving, so your surroundings are never the same and if you have the sat radio on, you will obviously be able to hear it at its point of failure.

It may be satellite radio but both XM and Sirius use ground repeaters in urban areas. These can be blocked by hills and buildings as well. I personally have very few drop out on my Sirius, works fine under large oak trees by my house or in my multi-level concrete garage at work. But as the OP and others have noted, there are plenty who have had this issue and unless there is a loose antenna connection, there is no fix for now.
