it looks like the newer builds that have anthracite trim do not have the silver bar pieces on the door handles. anyone know if you still can get the silver bars?

I think it depends on certain packages that you order. You may want to ask your dealer.
By the way I am from Winston-Salem. I think you are the only one I have seen on this forum from NC. Who did you order your BMW from?

Silver trim on doors was only until the supplies of wood pieces came on-stream, Now, (actually since jan) wood trim = wood door pulls

DD is correct. I tried to order the metal handles with anthracite on the dash and could not.

However, one can probably order those as separate parts and replace the wood ones since companies are required to provide replacement parts for X years after production, and initial models were supplied with metal handles.

I happen to prefer the metal ones too.

In Portugal if you order wood inserts you still get silver in the doors...

Mine was ordered production in the beggining of March and the aluminium, titanium II inserts were available.
The car was produced end of April (28th) and has the aluminium inserts.
A friend of mine orderd a 525d with the titanium inserts 2 weeks ago.
And i have some informations that the range of inserts is going to increase in a few time (europe).
