Just got my new 2007 530i (outside the U.S). Looks very nice and shiny. Silly thought: How do I know it's 530i and not, say, 525i? The two engines do look the same, don't they? Is there any unique original mark somewhere regarding the engine? Thanks..

There is a designation on the engine block, but it very hard to see

Easiest way is to put the VIN number onto the parts system and it will tell you what the car is

Also, if you can find the part number in the intake manifold it wil tell you

Is it not written on the car close to the b-pillar (a badge that you can see when the drivers door is open).

Check it out here.

Enter your BMW Serial Number (last 7 digits of your VIN).

If your car is new, this site doesn't know it yet.

There is also a tag with your engine model number on the front of the block. The bottom number is your engine (example N52B30 would be the 3.0L). See the circle in the photo.

What country did you buy it in? I'm just curious since you are questioning the integrity of the salepeople and I would too if I was in certain countries.

I remember this happenning to my uncle in India, so it just brought back baaaad memories. If I am wrong about your situation, I apologize in advance, it wasn't meant to be an insult to any countries specifically - just curious.

If you can/do not notice the difference when you put the pedal to the metal, why did you buy the more expensive 530 and not the 525?

First - break-in.. the pedal has not gone down.. yet..
Second - just taking your new 530i from a dealer, you're seating on the 258.. but, here is the question: can you really feel its 258 and not, say, 218 without putting the two side this moment of time?
Third - i'll remember it when talking to my friend with the 550.. maybe he should have taken the 540..
