I just noticed that both my side mirrors have developed cracks (one has lost a 2 inch piece that covers the heating plate and shows prominantly from 20 feet away). I also noticed bubbles similar to what you would see when there is corrosion below the surface.
Did a search and found this description by a fellow bmw owner

Should this be covered under warranty? I am a few months away from expiration. Btw, the car was bought from bmw as a certified series. I am assuming that this can easily be fixed by replacing the supports only as the mirrors seem to be just fine.

My previous 11/2003 E60 530i had the same problem, my friend who bought the car from me had it fixed, the paint guy said it is a common problem...
And yes, if you have a warranty, they should definitely cover it, it cant be due to wrong usage etc. it is a problem with paint or the underneath material.
