My Ride: 2004 545i with 325HP 6 speed Steptronic trans with DVD NAV, Heads Up Display, Logic7 sound system, Rear sunshade, Sport Package....
I am getting a shutter type of noise coming from the right side of the engine when the car is out of "Park", when in "Park" the engine idle normally. I went to to my local car dealer who has a 04 545i like mine to see if the noise might be normal but did hear the same noise which leaves me to believe something else with the car. I was wondering if anyone else had a similar issue. I plan to record the noise and take it to my local BMW dealer for further diagnostic.
THanks so much.....

Did you refer to some tapping/clicking noise?
My car's symptom is engine knocking a little under load and it went away. Also, with AC on, step on brake with left foot, put in D, I can hear the noise, especially, in drive-through alley. It can be reproduce easier by raising RPM by 100 and release gas pedal.
I brought my car in for this symptom and was told that it was timing chain tensioner . Not sure if it's the case, and I just wait to see what they say.

After looking into the noise further.... it's not a Shutter type noise more like a rattling/tapping noise... I was told it might be a pump... which one don't know yet.... Since the noise can be reproduce very easy, I left the car at the dealer and will return in the morning to point out the noise to the SA and possible a tech....
Will update everyone hopefully with good news.... Thanks everyone for your input on this issue.
