MY '06 550 SHUDDERS AT LOW/LAG SPEEDS (FEELS LIKE THE TRANNY IS IN TOO HIGH A GEAR). DEALER TELLS ME IT'S NORMAL (DOESN'T FEEL NORMAL TO ME) AND TO DRIVE IN SPORT MODE (WHICH UPSHIFTS AND ELIMINATES THE SHUDDER.) BUT, I SHOULD BE ABLE TO DRIVE IN DRIVE THROUGH MY NEIGHBORHOOD W/O SHUDDER. ANY IDEAS OR SUGGESTIONS? IS THIS A PROGRAMMING PROBLEM WITH THE TRANNY? HAS THE CAR "LEARNED" HOW TO BE IN TOO HIGH A GEAR?
THANKS FOR YOUR SUPPORT.

have you tried the 25 second transmission reset trick?

(no need for the caps, usually means you are yelling when you type in caps)
***GL with you problem...hope it gets resolved...

Thanks. Yes, I tried the 25 sec. reset. Nothing. By the way, someone on the 25sec. reset thread seem to suggest that it was a hoax.

back to the issue...if you need to drive it in DS mode to get rid of the shudder, don't think it is normal...
so your SA was able to replicate the "shudder" and tell you that was normal or you just explained to your SA what your e60/the "shudder" was like without the SA hearing/feeling it...If it is the latter, I would ask the tech or SA or shop foreman to take a ride with you just to confirm if it's normal....from what you are describing...it's doesn't seem normal...

I have the exact same issue. I think it might be related to the below SIB which suggests a progman update. Symptom #1 and #3 sounds like what you might be experiencing. Does the car feel better after 5-10 mins of driving, mine seems to.

i have same issue, but it's not noticable most of the time. If i roll on slow speed without acceleration especially uphill car can slightly shudder. Same as if you start from 2nd or 3d gear on manual. It's seems to be a software issue. Car is programmed to save gas and to use higher gears. Sport mode fixes the issue.
But you right, sometimes you feel like it's not how you want tranny to work. After upgrading to a latest software it din't change for me. A lot of times i wish i could have manual

And, yes. It stops after 5-10 min of driving.
