The 535d has more power and will pay for itself ONLY if you do above 15,000 miles a year, mostly motorway driving.
If you have a high proportion of town/urban driving at legal speeds, the new 520d or 525d has the same shove and much more frugal.
And when it gets time to turn it in, you will get better residuals as people pay more for lower road tax liabilities.

535d is the way to go - get some non-BMW warranty and enjoy.

You will spend most of your time tickling the accelerator, but when you want to go for it you can floor it and have a huge smile all the way home!

If it has non-runflats, even better....

Good luck
