It's a tough tough world JK. Yea I wouldn't mind a little display for what gear your in when in D or D/S but I have gotten very used to the car and can tell what gear I am in most of the time.
I'm getting there too now. Two months of driving this ultimate machine under my belt now

Yea if you give it some gas but then slow down because the car in front of you stops and then go again your car will kick like a mule in 1st gear.
I only use first gear when I can consistently keep my foot on the gas.

At nearly 80K miles and shifting in manual for nearly 95% of its adult life I can safely say I have not heard a word from my STEP that I am treating it wrong. My only problem is the brakes will not wear. Still over 25k miles until pads are due. That will be at least 100k miles on one set of pads. Thinking about "stopping" soon. I have to admit to not having a very demanding daily drive with a maximum of, 2 stop signs, 4 stop lights that are 90% green for me in 25 miles (4 others < 1% red in my direction), one bridge than opens once a month at my time of travel, and one guard shack stop on the inbound route only. Pretty tame stuff for a tranny to take. We call it the NASA 500.

I do a fair amount of shifting while at stop, if I have not already downshifted to 1st. You can feel the torque converter lock up at stop when you shift 2nd to 1st. Just a little umph to let you know it is ready to takeoff if asked.

If you can retrofit it into my car for under $100 I'll take you up on that I would have preferred SMG, but when I was looking, they were pretty rare. If I'd made that a must-have requirement (along with all the other must-haves I had), I'm pretty sure I'd still be looking for the perfect car right now.
