Just wondering if its possible to upgrade a non-digital shifter to a digital one?

Sure, anything is possible.. just pull the other one off and then put the new one on. Now if you want the lights to light up then you'll have to rig it. Now if you want the lights to light up according to gears you'll have to do some real rigging lol. It is possible just don't care to do it. someone gave me a shifter and an idrive knob from a 2011. It's nicer but not like this one.

Is the park function(button) going to work though?

No, if you switch to that style shifter its pretty much like changing out the grip or handle. The transmission will still function the same as before and if you get the right kit the new shifter will just light up and thats it. Just yesterday I switched over from the standard auto shifter to the M5 SMG shifter that lights up. The only difference between the two is I no longer have a button to depress when moving from park to reverse, etc. Go to motivemods.com and look around there and see if you like any of their bmw retrofit kits, its a little expensive but I like them, also email response time is crazy fast.
